Consumable Robotics
In May 2015 CBiS Education announced a brave new project called 'Find Life' with a goal to communicate with a little planet called 'Hex' in the solar system 'Array'! We made First Contact in June 2016 and got a response from an alien inventor called 'Binary' who has been having problems with 'bugs' getting into his inventions. He has decided to teleport copies of his inventions as Development Kits to earth to see what earthlings can do with them!
This is the video received back from planet 'Hex'

Order some development kits below, to be teleported from Planet Hex!

Teleport kits from Planet Hex
There are 3 versions of development kit which contain cardboard copies of Binary's inventions, some electronic components & sensors, sticker sheets and instructions to get going. The kits are compatible with and require either the BBC micro:bit or CodeBug to explore their full capability.
Click to order some of the kits below, we will teleport them from planet 'Hex' and ship them direct to you!

Development Kit - Dimm

Dimm was Binary's first invention and is now Binary's best friend. This pack contains a copy of Dimm and lots of interesting sensors.

Can you build Dimm, personalise him and then code him to do lots of things or will the naughty code snipping bugs get in the way?

The Development Kit on its own includes:
  • Flat pack Cardboard Dimm
  • Sticker Sheets, medal stickers
  • Instruction Book
  • Cardboard Standup Binary
  • Speaker with attaching Croc Clip Wires
  • Temperature Sensor with attaching Croc Clip Wires
  • Motion Sensor with attaching Croc Clip Wires
  • Light Sensor with attaching Croc Clip Wires
  • Spare Croc Clip to Croc Clip Wires

If you do not have a control board such as a micro:bit or CodeBug, you can buy a pack with one in.
Alternatively you can buy them along with other components, sensors, spares and class packs of kits from our shop!

Consumable Robotics - Information

Binary

Binary is an alien inventor from the Planet 'Hex', we are not sure what sort of life form he is or how many of his kind there are. But he seems to be a peaceful alien who loves to build inventions.

Dimm

Dimm is thought to be the first invention of Binary. He is a lovely robot that comes in useful! Binary says that Dimm is a bit slow, but we find he always has the best ideas!

Code Snipping Bug

These little bugs are very naughty creatures on planet Hex. They keep getting into Binary's inventions and breaking them. They break code all the time! Can you get bugs out of the system?

Solar System Array

This is the solar system 'Array'. The only two planets CBiS Education knows about at the moment are 'Hex' and 'Ascii'

Introduction to some of the team members

Professor Gregory Hernadez Torres of Astrophysics

First Contact with planet Hex & an alien schematic

Attempt at sending a ‘first contact’ signal to the planet. The attempt is successful in the early hours of the morning, but there is a system overload, power is cut and it appears a signal is received back. The signal also contains schematics to build some form of device – a teleporter.

Switching on the alien device to see what happens!

We powered up the device - and it teleported in the first copies of Binary's inventions. We also got a great video from Binary on the planet Hex.
